HP: Systemic DRM and Firmware Lockouts

I’m still working on this, so is there a way to publish a page as a draft before fully publishing or saving something I’m not too familiar with MediaWiki. I’ve made some more tweaks and I’m still writing a bit more, so it’s not AI. It’s just a collection of different URLs and things I saw around HP mostly because I used to have an HP printer… but there’s a systemic issue outside of Brothers, which I think Brothers have changed from some things I’ve researched. They’ve all started doing ridiculous things like DRM lockouts or subscription services for a stupid printer. Hirov.xyz (talk) 13:57, 29 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate you reaching out to me regarding your article! I apologize for falsely flagging your article as AI. If you need more time to get a future article up to wiki standards, you can move the page to your sandbox ( just be sure to select the "User" option from the drop-down bar; and type "Hirov.xyz/sandbox" in the box to the right of it).
What I would recommend are two things:
  • Use the Cite web template for your references
    • You would insert the <ref>{{Cite web|}}</ref> in source editor after a sentence or word that relates to the contents of the reference
  • Follow the Incident article format
I have put an "under development" template on the article for now, so you do not need to move it to your sandbox. In the meantime, I would suggest focusing on formatting the article and references with the resources I linked above. If you need more resources on wiki editing, this index is a good start! Awesome thanks for replying back here. I just jumped right into it. I’ll read through all those articles and ping you to see once I feel like this is in good shape. Based on all the information you gave me have a good Labor Day Weekend. Hirov.xyz (talk) 01:31, 30 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, you as well! Mr Pollo (talk) 15:38, 31 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
As I read further, I came across “HP, Inc.” It reminded me of some thoughts I already have that I can expand upon. Instead of creating a separate page, I thought it might be better to add these ideas to the existing page. I noticed that the page mentions printers but doesn’t have a link to the tag for printers. Maybe that’s why I missed it. I’ll probably review more of the wiki and look for other similar topics. I think this might help me organize the information better than just adding more pages. Some things might already exist and just need to be expanded upon. Hirov.xyz (talk) 02:44, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
If what you have currently can all fit on the HP company article rather than for a full incident, then I would suggest editing the company article first. If you find more credibly sourced info about the HP printer DRM that can fill out all the required sections in the IncidentPreload, then an incident article will be good. Confused about some of your actions

Hello Mr Pollo.

from your recent commits, you seem to be deleting self-titled categories. From my understanding of Consumer Rights Wiki:Categorization, this is incorrect.

From what i've read, all pages should be in a category which is self-titled. Or am i misunderstanding something ?

Please provide clarification. Thank you ! Plankton (talk) 04:05, 24 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not sure exactly what edits you're talking about, but if it is where the actual original page for the category has been deleted, there's no reason for it to exist. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 09:07, 24 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
No i'm talking about pages which had a category of the same names with further tags in that category, and where Mr Pollo removed said category and put the tags straight onto the page. Plankton (talk) 13:03, 24 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello! As the Common terms category is not mentioned in the Categorization page, I figured those articles only needed the common terms category. Although, if you would like to make a self category for every article in Common terms and add that category to all the terms category pages, we would need to ask higher staff. @Keith thoughts? Mr Pollo (talk) 20:20, 24 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm not deeply involved with the categorisation system, and am happy for you guys to adopt whichever solution you think most sensible. LMK if there's anything you need my perms for, or anything like that! Keith (talk) 19:15, 29 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I feel like we should keep the Common terms category the way it is, as users are more familiar with adding that category to articles compared to the pagename category and then adding the common terms category to that. If necessary though, the category for individual common terms can be made if there are other articles that fit the term definition. Mr Pollo (talk) 13:34, 30 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
alright then. thank you all for the clarification Plankton (talk) 01:18, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Of course! Mr Pollo (talk) 13:12, 1 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Optimum

in the summary when creating the page you mentioned incidents will be added but that was in April. will it be expanded upon? SinexTitan (talk) 22:13, 18 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Yes I’ve been meaning to continue that article for some time now. I added my sources to the Optimum logo file for safe keeping if you would like to see. Feel free to utilize those sources if you’d like, though I’ve been busy. Mr Pollo (talk) 16:27, 20 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
no worries, I'll check them out and see what I can do SinexTitan (talk) 17:57, 20 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey Pollo,

I've seen that you've started the merge process. I agree that I didn't look around the wiki enough on this matter. Tho IMO the page I made is much more full of information than the one you started. Please use most of the stuff I wrote. I spent 1-2 hours looking around for info. Please value my time spent.

Thanks,

Hello! Thank you for writing to me about this, I will utilize your article contents and sources in the merge. Mr Pollo (talk) 14:20, 18 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
