Hey what happened to my account?

I am currently using "Edit Source" as a way to communicate, but I am not sure what happened. What happened to "Edit" what happened to me not able to reply? What did I do?

@Jerry468 This happens in discussions, for some reason there is no 'edit' button in discussion pages, instead use the 'reply' button next to discussions or the 'Add Topic' button on the top right. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 15:31, 29 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

"Random Page" should be front and center :)

When browsing without an account "Random Page" is hidden behind a menu. Is there a way to plop it right next to "search" or in the middle of the home page to better facilitate visitors? (or maybe a browse button? Or a "New here? Read about consumer rights here!" where it gives a quick into and recommends a good page to start browsing).

Its just a little overwhelming to be a visitor curious about consumer rights and not having a clear place to start. Mallveo (talk) 21:39, 10 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, sorry for none of us replying! Pinging @Keith as he can give a much better response, but from what I understand we are doing a full UI redesign in 2026. As for things being front and center, maybe we could consider that as an option when we do that, but there is a sidebar already showing some important information on the left. Hope that helps. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 19:47, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think the thing they're meaning with this is that the sidebar starts out collapsed if you're not logged in, so it's not obviously visible to a new user. This is something that should probably be fixed regardless of any UI redesign as I think the sidebar's pretty important for site navigation.
For now a random article link on the main page seems like a decent shout! Keith (talk) 18:09, 5 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh, that definitely shouldn't be hidden, I didn't know that! AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 19:27, 10 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is a default feature of Vector 2022. I’d fixed this before, but it got overwritten when we redid a lot of the infrastructure. I’ll add it back when I get a chance. JakeL (talk) 01:09, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Now fixed! :) JakeL (talk) 21:14, 1 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

not to alarm you guys... but...

Top articles correction

I moved the page Milwaukee battery DRM because "DRM" was lowercase previously. The main page still uses the formatting from the redirect that the page move left behind, even after purging the cache, so it must be manually updated. More importantly, the link for Digital rights management is dead; I'm going to add a redirect, but I'm leaving this here as a heads up. Bythmusters (talk) 18:05, 29 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Done. DRM link was probs alr fixed by JakeL. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 17:16, 30 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Seeking Help to Reconfigure Bluetooth Settings on a Medical Prosthetic Knee

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I’m a transfemoral amputee using a second-hand Bluetooth-enabled prosthetic knee. The knee itself is fully functional, but it’s an older, discontinued model, and that’s where the problem starts.

The manufacturer’s configuration software is now obsolete and no longer supported, so my prosthetist cannot reconfigure the knee using official tools anymore. I do have legitimate access:

•	The device is mine

•	I can successfully connect to it via Bluetooth

•	I have the pairing key and can use the mobile app

However, the mobile app only exposes very limited settings, and I need access to deeper / advanced configuration parameters that directly affect my gait, stability, and overall mobility. These settings clearly exist (they were adjustable when the device was still supported), but they’re now locked behind software that no longer runs.

What I’m trying to understand is whether it’s possible to:

•	Inspect or understand the Bluetooth communication used by the original software/app

•	Identify the relevant commands, characteristics, or protocol used to configure the knee

•	Modify or send specific configuration values using modern tools, without relying on the deprecated software

This is not about bypassing security or hacking a device I don’t own — it’s a medical device that I depend on daily, and I’m simply trying to regain access to functionality that the hardware is already capable of, but software obsolescence has taken away.

I’m open to learning and doing this properly, and I understand this may involve BLE analysis, protocol reverse-engineering, or embedded/Bluetooth tooling. Even high-level guidance on where to start (tools, workflows, or similar experiences) would be incredibly helpful.

If anyone has experience with:

•	Bluetooth or BLE reverse engineering

•	GATT analysis, packet sniffing, or custom Bluetooth protocols

or is willing to help guide me through this, I’d be deeply grateful. This isn’t just a technical curiosity — it’s about maintaining my independence and quality of life.

Thank you so much for reading. Daniel2299 (talk) 23:54, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Add diagrams

I know this is likely already covered under some other site or maybe it is here and I missed it.

Would it be possible to have a section for an archive of wiring diagramsand maybe user manuals? I havee no ideas how it could be archived ie by year the product was made, or company, or company product subproduct.

I worry that may bring unwanted attention from companies trying to keep their diagrams proprietary. That or this will be the location of the next top secret leak.

I could also see this being a data sink that is rarely used.

I know a some of the manuals/ diagrams are hidden behind a pay wall or almost impossible to find and having one location that is not going to charge a subscription later would be great. 72.22.224.50 19:57, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

JFK Consumer Bill of Rights

I'd like to suggest that CR-Wiki identify the best location on the Site to commemorate Jack Kennedy's 1962 Consumer Bill of Rights, which, although never specifically codified into US national Consumer Rights law, has nevertheless served as a model for many related Consumer movements and laws. What happened to the main page

why does the main page look like this https://ibb.co/21XSXgWC https://ibb.co/MkDgJrf1 ? Did I do something, how do I fix it? Andrew V (talk) 17:54, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry - Jake's just playing around with the templates and formatting to try and make it look a bit nicer! should settle down shortly Keith (talk) 18:05, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

The Clippy Daily Dot article link is incorrect in the "In the News" template being transcluded to the Main Page

the link is https://www.dailydot.com/culture/youtube-clippy-pfx/
but should be https://dailydot.com/youtube-clippy-pfp

The correct link says "pfp" (profile picture) and the incorrect link says "pfx" for some reason.

It was a pain to find the transcluded template with the error:

https://consumerrights.wiki/w/Template:Main_Page/In_The_News

Since this other similar page is linked from the template:

https://consumerrights.wiki/w/Consumer_Rights_Wiki:In_the_news

It's atypical of MediaWiki based projects to not directly link to the view template page from the template itself. And maybe the page similarity issue should be solved with a merge?

Lastly, and most significantly, the historical view of the Main Page at the time of the edit that added the template in question (6 July 2025)

https://consumerrights.wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page&diff=prev&oldid=16466

includes the Daily Dot Clippy story (12 August 2025) which wasn't available at the time of the edit, demonstrating that the transclusion was refreshed even for the older revisions of the Main Page. The older "renderings" of the page shouldn't have been modified with updated transclusions not just for preservation purposes, but also because it would waste a bunch of the server time dealing with extra stuff in the MediaWiki Job Queue.

I am not sure how hard those other things are to fix but there you go. 209.44.198.25 09:48, 20 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for not seeing this earlier and thanks a lot for this! I've done the first as it's very easy, but @JakeL could do the second one as I'm not sure how to fix it. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 09:36, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Identify Consumer Tools with Anti-Consumer Concessions?

I specifically bring this up because of the recommendation of Trim, the OneMain version of Rocket Money. When clicking the link, I'd initially expected it would be some financial tool with crowd-sourced identifiers for various subscription services that you could drop your statements into to identify unintentional spending. On actually reading the Privacy Policy, however, it's very much the same case as any other major finance app where they're sharing your every identifier to advertisers and retaining your personal information for up to 12 months.

I'm not saying this is inherently wrong or that such practices should immediately disqualify it from being listed on the site, but I do think it would be in the spirit of the wiki to add some kind of identifier for tools/services which are run by entities prone to anti-consumer practices, just to help someone who might assume that any tool recommended by users of the wiki would also abide by the apparent values of the wiki, without them actually verifying that such is the case. I think something similar to the adjacent tool's [requires subscription] label would suffice. Maybe even just an asterisk with a line at the bottom of the box clarifying that while this tool is useful, it comes with one or more anti-consumer concessions.

I think the ultimate "fix" for this is to create individual pages for each tool, or category of tool, or one long "Consumer Tools" page with fleshed out details on each item, but that's a much more involved project than what I think would be sufficient for right now(TM).

That said, I can also see the argument that one should be privy to the privacy policy and ToS with any product, so perhaps that behavior is assumed and this isn't considered to be within the scope of the wiki. That, along with determining the specifics if something were to be implemented to address my concern, is why I thought it would make sense to put this in the Talk page.
