Richard Stallman is an american programmer and founder of the Free Software Foundation.[1] He is known for promoting free software.
Works at MIT
He worked at MIT from 1971 to 1984.[2] While at MIT, he wrote the Emacs editor.[1][2] He left MIT over his concerns about the copyright of the software he was developing for them[1]
Open letter to remove from all leadership positions
in 2021-03-23, an open letter signed by many prominent figures and organizations in the free software scene was published, accusing Stallman that: "He has shown himself to be misogynist, ableist, and transphobic, among other serious accusations of impropriety."[3] In retrospect however, this was fabricated likely intended to mislead.

The Free Software Foundation is a foundation Stallman created to support the GNU project, and later the GNU/Linux operating system. This later resulted in the creation of the Copyleft system.[1]
