Bluebeam Revu 20 license reassignment cutoff refers to Bluebeam's decision to end technical support and legacy-license seat reassignment for Revu 20 on 31 July 2026. Bluebeam states that already-activated perpetual licenses may continue working on their existing computers, but cannot be transferred to a new or replacement computer. Bluebeam also states that customers replacing or upgrading hardware will need a current Bluebeam subscription to continue using Revu.[1]

Industry coverage of the transition also reported that license-management services and reassignment to different computers ended on 31 July 2026.[2]

Background

Bluebeam describes Revu 20 perpetual licenses as one-time purchases registered to individual workstations using a serial number and product key.[3]

Before the reassignment cutoff, Bluebeam maintained a documented procedure for moving a perpetual seat between computers. The procedure directed the user to unregister Revu on the source computer and then register the same version on the destination computer with the existing serial number and product key.[1]

Bluebeam stopped selling Revu 20 licenses after 30 September 2023 and transitioned its current Revu desktop offering to a subscription model.[4][3]

End of support and license reassignment

Revu 20 reached End of Support on 31 July 2026. Bluebeam states that technical support and self-service license management, including seat releases, are no longer available after that date.[4]

Bluebeam's licensing documentation states that perpetual licenses already activated will continue to operate on their existing computers. However, the licenses can no longer be reassigned or transferred to a new or replacement computer, and replacing or upgrading hardware requires a subscription plan.[1][3]

Revu 20 is scheduled to reach End of Life on 31 December 2026. Bluebeam states that the local perpetual application may continue operating, but Revu 20 will lose access to Studio Sessions, Studio Projects and API integrations.[4]

Consumer impact

The reassignment cutoff has an effect beyond the termination of technical support. A perpetual license that remains functional on its existing computer may no longer be usable when that computer is replaced, fails or undergoes hardware changes that cause it to be identified as a different machine.[1][3]

The restriction is narrower than complete remote deactivation because Bluebeam states that ordinary perpetual installations already activated may continue operating locally.[4] Nevertheless, license holders who need to move from a desktop to a laptop or replace an existing computer can no longer use the previously documented seat-transfer procedure.[1]

Drawboard described computer failure or replacement as a significant issue for remaining Revu 20 users. It also described the desktop application as a substantially diminished tool for organisations that depend on Studio collaboration after Studio access ends.[5]

Same-computer reinstallations

Bluebeam's Revu 20 administration guide states that re-imaging a computer or installing a new system drive without changing the original computer name will be viewed by the licensing system as the same computer. The guide states that changing the computer name causes Revu to unregister and require re-registration.[6]

This documentation indicates that some operating-system reinstallations or system-drive replacements on the original computer may be treated differently from moving the license to a laptop or replacement computer. Bluebeam does not describe this same-computer exception as permitting reassignment to different hardware.[6][1]

Licensing terms

Bluebeam's archived end-user license agreement describes a single-user license as a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to install one copy of Revu on one device. It also states that the software may use authorization or registration technology to prevent uses that are not permitted by the license.[7]

These terms existed alongside Bluebeam's published procedure for unregistering a seat from one computer and registering it on another. The 2026 cutoff ended access to that documented reassignment procedure for Revu 20 perpetual licenses.[7][1]

Industry response

IMAGINiT Technologies advised Revu 20 users that technical support, license-management services and reassignment to different computers would end on 31 July 2026. It recommended that organisations assess the effect on their licensing and workflows and consider migrating to a current Bluebeam subscription.[2]

Drawboard discussed both continued limited use of Revu 20 and migration to another product or a Bluebeam subscription. Its coverage highlighted the effect of device replacement and the future loss of Studio collaboration.[5]

Bluechip Infotech New Zealand, a Bluebeam distributor, presented the transition to resellers as an opportunity to convert customers using older perpetual licenses to recurring annual subscriptions. Its notice also confirmed the end of license reassignment to new computers and the later loss of cloud services.[8]
