The Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) program is a program created by Apple that provides third-party repair businesses with access to resources for repairing Apple products, including genuine parts, tools, training, and diagnostics.[1]
Apple operates a separate program, the Independent Repair Provider program, for companies performing out-of-warranty iPhone or Mac repairs directly for end users; parts resellers and distributors are not eligible, and Apple will not consider applicants that use Apple trademark terms in their company names.[2]
Incidents
Repair shop owners on Reddit's r/applehelp forum have described the AASP program's requirements as restrictive and questioned whether Apple intends to keep authorizing smaller independent shops, arguing that Apple computers have become extraordinarily difficult for third parties to repair.[3] The program has been criticized in the right-to-repair press for the degree of control Apple retains over authorized repairs.[2]
