Welcome to Lord Marmites Castle

Good things are to come! You'll love me or hate me.

Marmite?

Marmite is a savoury spread made from the byproduct of brewing beer. It has a very savoury umami taste which is not to everyone's palate. It is delicious spread thinly on hot buttered toast or crumpets. Add cheese for extra zing!

Lexar warranty troubles

Faulty 16GB Lexar High-Performance MicroSD card

Summary

May 2017: I purchased a Lexar High performance 300x 16GB MicroSD card (LSDMI16GBB).

6th September 2026: In September of 2026, it stopped functioning - just dead in all devices. I reached out to Lexar support as I believed it to have a Lifetime warranty.

10th September 2026: Lexar agreed it was under warranty, approved the RMA, and asked me to fill out the documentation for a "return-less" RMA (destruction).

16th September 2026: In response to my email asking if a replacement was possible, they advised "After a thorough review by our specialist team, I regret to inform you that because the product is outside its 5-year warranty period, we cannot approve an RMA for a replacement or refund."

21st September 2026: After asking for clarification on what warranty applied, they advised: "We can confirm that this product comes with a 5-year limited warranty. You can review the full warranty terms and details on our official website here: https://www.lexar.com/fr/warranty/."

Between 21st September 2026 and the 1st October 2026: Emails back and forwards providing information [1] [2] that yes, the product does have a lifetime warranty.

5th October 2026: The RMA was once again approved, for $7.80 (purchase price - VAT). The reason for the change in decision was: "this refund is a special exception granted by our management team."

9th October 2026: Partial refund received, as they only accept Paypal to refund, but sent the $7.80 payment as a "Goods/Services" payment (so I had to pay the tx fee).

Consumer Rights Concerns

Change of Warranty Terms

Lexar was acquired by Longsys in late 2017, and I believe they changed their warranty terms unilaterally for this card to 5 years at some point after the acquisition - and introduced a "refund" term which was not present at time of purchase - intentionally or accidentally. Their supports insistence that the product only had a 5 year warranty (because of their changed documents), and then insistence this is only a management exception, shows that likely other people may also experience the same issues. A quick search online shows a mixed positive and negative experience with the warranty process [3].

Lexar appear to have ignored, deliberately or accidentally, multiple requests for company identification and/or postal address. This is important, as you would need to correctly identify the legal entity if you wished to pursue legal proceedings, along with a physical address to send postal documents.
