Founded in 1996, TP-Link is a Chinese hardware company that is known for its development of smart-home and networking products.

TP-Link currently includes a forced arbitration clause in their terms of use agreements.^[10][11] This arbitration clause has been present in TP-Link's terms of use since at least 2019.^[12]

The TP-Link Tapo app is required to set up and use Tapo smart devices that aren't Matter certified. This app requires agreement to the TP-Link terms of use, which includes an arbitration clause in order to continue setup or to access Tapo smart devices.

Similarly to the Tapo app, the TP-Link Deco app is required to set up and use Deco mesh routers. This app requires agreement to the TP-Link terms of use, which includes an arbitration clause in order to continue setup or to access Deco mesh routers.

The TP-Link Kasa app is required to set up and use Kasa smart devices. This app requires an account and agreement to the TP-Link terms of use, which includes an arbitration clause in order to continue setup or to access Kasa smart devices.

The TP-Link Omada app is required to set up and use Omada networking equipment. This app requires agreement to the TP-Link terms of use, which includes an arbitration clause in order to continue setup or to access Omada devices, however, the arbitration clause within the Omada app does provide an option for the user to opt-out, as well as instructions on how to do so. Arbitration is still opted-in by default.

The TP-Link Tether app is required for some maintenance operation on consumer network devices like routers, access points, repeaters. The devices most of the time allow a web configuration without associating to the app, however for some of these devices the firmware section of the support site is not provided, so the only way to update the device's firmware is registration, link to the device and use the app, or login to the device itself and use the integrated update procedure. Devices are actively locked-in to allow login only from the network subnet of the device. For instance, at date of writing (23 October 2025) the most updated firwmare file for Archer C6 v4 is 1.15.0 Build 250729 Rel.63726n(4555), which cannot be found in any TP-Link support website. The most recent I found is version Archer C6(EU)_V4_1.14.30 Build 250729 found on the global TP-Link support website. If it's good for Tether app to deploy in produts, should be good for a standard http download.
