Consumer impact summary

The Insta360 X5, as any other Insta360 device, requires activation before first use, which is impossible without connecting to Insta360 servers & having an active Insta360 account, this means the camera will become inoperable when Insta360 terminate their services.

The Insta360 X5 features a persistent notification bar button (in previous cameras this section was only useful settings) in its user interface that links to Insta360+, a paid cloud service. This button remains visible even for users who have not subscribed to the service and directs them to an info screen describing the benefits of subscribing, while not offering any functionality to do it from the camera, since the process must be done on the Insta360 app.

This practice has been criticized as embedded advertising, potentially pressuring users to subscribe and limiting control over the device’s interface.

Despite being able to synchronize content to Insta360+ cloud service, camera does not provide any means to synchronize it with another Web services of user's choice, e.g. another cloud or user-hosted WebDav server.
