Incidents

This is a list of all consumer-protection incidents this company is involved in. Any incidents not mentioned here can be found in the In-N-Out Burger category.

E.coli Incident (2003)

On 27 March 2003, a lawsuit was filed against In-N-Out for allegedly failing to implement food safety measures. The lawsuit alleges that a 12 year old girl got infected with E.coli after eating at an In-N-Out in Kettleman City, California some time in January 2001. As a result she developed Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, requiring 28 days of medical attention with 17 of them requiring life saving kidney dialysis.[1] The exact outcome of the case still remains unknown.

Restaurant closure due to suspected Norovirus affecting Customers (2017)

An In-N-Out location in Livermore, California had shut down on 06 May after 9 customers were reported to have gotten sick. One customer commented on the situation to a news station, stating;[2]

"My family did take out from the North Livermore Avenue on Monday night,” Redell said. “My wife and I had some burgers and fries. Both of us were fine. But our 14-year-old daughter was complaining of cramps and feeling nauseous after her meal. And then was fine a short time later."

A company spokesman at In-N-Out responded to the closure, saying; “Here at In-N-Out Burger, the health and well-being of our customers and our associates is a top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause for our customers and we will re-open our Livermore restaurant once we are certain that there are no issues there."[3]

On 12 May, the store reopened after an investigation was conducted, finding no source for the outbreak, however health officials suspect the norovirus to be the culprit.[2][4]
