The GoPro HERO12 Black is an action camera sold by GoPro. Its product page advertises the camera as "Waterproof to 33ft (10m)" without a housing, in the Product Details section, alongside claims of durability.[1]

Warranty terms

GoPro's warranty does not cover water-housing leakage. The warranty states:

Because of possible user resealing errors, this product is not warranted against water housing leakage or any resulting damage.[2]

The warranty also excludes damage resulting from use, accident, or normal wear and tear.[3]

GoPro's response

GoPro offers no warranty remedy for water damage, but sells a separate subscription that includes damaged camera replacement. Subscribers can exchange up to two cameras per year for the same model, with fees applying, through the "no questions asked" replacement program.[4][5] Replacement credits become available after a subscriber completes an anniversary year.[5] The replacement program is a paid subscription benefit rather than a warranty term.[4]

Consumer response

Users on the r/gopro subreddit have observed that water damage is not covered under GoPro's warranty even for cameras used within the advertised depth rating, with some noting that GoPro's subscription program offers paid replacement as the practical remedy.[6]
