Empatica E4 was a medical-grade wristband developed by Empatica Inc. for clinical and academic research released in 2015. The device contains four primary sensors from which physiological data is collected in real-time: Electrodermal Activity, Photoplethysmography, Skin Temperature and an Accelerometer.
Consumer-impact summary
Although sensor data can be received by any device which supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), doing so requires Empatica's proprietary suite of applications released alongside the E4. Signal processing is done locally on the user's device, however recorded data is stored on Empatica servers with a user account being necessary to view and download recorded data.
