Ikawa Coffee Home Roasters, including models like the Home Roaster 100, require the use of their mobile app to set roast profiles, fine tune setting, share recipes, and operate the device via Bluetooth. In May 2025, users received emails announcing the discontinuation of Ikawa Home products and their supporting applications. The app was set to reach its end of life on 31 December 2026, which would render the roaster unusable.[1]
Despite this, the Ikawa Home website continued to sell these products without disclosing the app's discontinuation or the limited lifespan on the main product page.The continued until the public announcement on 21 May 2025. This resulted in users who purchased the product during this period only a 18 month window of full functionality. [2]
Background
Ikawa Home produces precision coffee roasters (ranging from 100g to 1kg) designed for home users. These devices require the use of the official app via Bluetooth to create and edit roast profiles, monitor roasting, share recipes, and operate the machine. Without the app the core functionality of the device isn't accessible.
Discontinuation of service
In May 2025, Ikawa emailed existing users that it was discontinuing the entire Ikawa Home range. Announcing the Home website would transfer, final orders were accepted until July 2025, no further app updates would be released after 30 September 2025 and the app would stop working on 31 December 2026. Support and out of warranty repairs end 01 Jan 2027.
Customers who bought the device during the final sales period received no warning on the product page about the obsolescence even when the company and current users where aware. The hardware was actively sold as a long term roasting device.
Ikawa's response:
After careful consideration, we have made the decision to discontinue our IKAWA Home range of products. The IKAWA Home website will officially close on September 30, 2025.
As part of this transition, we're excited to share that we are merging our IKAWA Home website with IKAWA Pro's social platforms and app under one unified IKAWA brand — creating a single, streamlined experience for all our customers. This change allows us to better support our growing community and focus on delivering the next generation of innovative roasting solutions.
We are incredibly grateful to customers like you who have been at the forefront of the home roasting revolution, bringing professional-level roasting to kitchens and home brew bars around the world.
IKAWA was founded with a vision: to connect coffee growers to coffee drinkers through the experience of home roasting. Today, we remain committed to that vision across both IKAWA Pro and IKAWA Home — unified under one IKAWA brand.
What this means for you:
Customer Support We will continue to provide customer support and service for IKAWA Home products through January 1, 2027.
IKAWA Home App While no further updates or enhancements will be made after September 30, 2025, the IKAWA Home app will remain usable until December 31, 2026. Our team is currently working to provide a solution for continued app-based operation of your IKAWA Home system. Don't worry — you will continue to be able to use your roaster!
Warranty Coverage All IKAWA Home roasting systems purchased via www.ikawahome.com prior to September 30, 2025, will continue to be covered under our 1-year limited warranty.
Repairs & Servicing Out-of-warranty repairs and services will be available until December 31, 2026. These will be quoted based on the service needed and your location (for shipping and collection logistics).
Alternative Product Recommendations We'll continue to support your roasting journey with recommendations for alternative green coffee sources. We will aim to provide a new Green Coffee shop. Our customer service team is happy to guide you to the best options based on your location and needs.
Final Orders IKAWA Home roasting systems will be available for purchase until July 2025. All purchases made before this date will include a 1-year warranty and access to support through January 2027.
IKAWA Credit IKAWA Credit will no longer accrue on Coffee and Accessory orders. Any existing credit must be used by September 30, 2025 — unused credit will expire after that date.

Consumer response
Some users have attempted and are working toward reverse engineering the protocol. However, they are hesitant due to Ikawa's user-hostile Terms of Service. [4]
