Chuwi - 7430U product false advertisement
Summary
In 2025 Chuwi released a laptop with a 7430U CPU, however it was found that it actually had a 5500U.
Background
On July the 2nd 2025 Chuwi, a Chinese company that makes/sells laptops and mini PCs launched the 'Chuwi CoreBook X 7430U'[1], an addition to its CoreBook X lineup which also featured an Intel model.
Chuwi's false advertisement
On the 4th of March 2026, NoteBookCheck who had previously done a review of the CoreBook X 7430U, put out an article warning potential buyers about false advertisment of the product[2]. Chuwi was actually using a 5500U, with software/firmware designed to make it look like a 7430U. In addition some users (including me) reported also recieving a SATA SSD[3] instead of the advertised NVME SSD. Reports for the CPU false advertisment go back to at least december of 2025[4]. NoteBookCheck also did a follow up article showing that another Chuwi device, the 'CoreBook Plus' also had the same false advertisement of the CPU[5].
Chuwi's response
Initially, Chuwi's response to NoteBookCheck wasn't very good the article saying "Chuwi did indeed reply but did not explicitly admit to an error. Instead, it referred to various production batches, or more precisely to remaining stocks still in circulation."[2]. In addition, Chuwi tried to get NoteBookCheck to take down their original article, even threatening legal action. "Repeated requests from Chuwi to take our related articles offline - under threat of legal action due to the reputational damage caused, mind you - have prompted us to investigate further."[5]
After this, AMD put out a statement to Chinese language outlet Sina[6], which was then translated and widely reported on by English outlets. A few days after this, Chuwi put out another statement this time on their blog[7] saying "Due to a production error, a limited number of CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus units were assembled with incorrect processors. If you have received a device that does not match the specifications you ordered, please return it for a full refund. You may initiate the return through your original purchase channel or contact our official support team at service@chuwi.com for assistance." however, they also state "Please ensure the device is in original condition with all accessories included" so it's possible that returns would be denied. In addition, the return is only valid until the 31st of May 2026.
Consumer response
There hasn't been too much consumer response due to Chuwi not being a major company, however I'm sure a lot less people will consider a Chuwi laptop in the future.
