GamersNexus, a consumer technology publication, had their YouTube video taken down by Bloomberg after Bloomberg claimed a DMCA violation over a fair-use snippet in GamersNexus' coverage of a Donald Trump speech.
Background
On 18 August 2025, GamersNexus uploaded a documentary on GPU smuggling to China for AI training purposes.[1]
Bloomberg DMCA takedown
On 20 August 2025, Bloomberg filed a DMCA takedown on GamersNexus' three-and-a-half-hour GPU smuggling documentary over a small credited snippet of then-current US President Donald Trump's speech.[2] The claim covered 1 minute and 15 seconds of Trump footage, about 0.59 percent of the video's length, and included some of GamersNexus' own studio-recorded voice-over, which the channel asserted fell within fair use.[3] The strike put the channel at risk of deletion under YouTube's three-strike policy.[4] The video has since been reuploaded to the Internet Archive.[5]
Bloomberg's response
Bloomberg did not file a lawsuit against GamersNexus over the video. GamersNexus stated that Bloomberg did not intend to actually litigate, and that the publisher benefited from YouTube removing the video for the 10 to 13 days during which a copyright counterclaim is evaluated; Bloomberg had published its own video on the AI GPU black market shortly beforehand.[3] Attorneys for GamersNexus sent a demand letter to Bloomberg and filed a counterclaim with YouTube, which YouTube accepted, meaning the video would return in about 10 days unless Bloomberg filed suit.[3]
Consumer response
Coverage framed the strike as a use of the DMCA against a consumer-advocacy publication: TweakTown reported that GamersNexus suggested the strike may have been motivated by the underperformance of Bloomberg's own video on the topic, and Notebookcheck described the channel as known for blunt but trusted coverage of PC hardware.[3][4] Discussion of the takedown spread across Reddit and Hacker News.[6]
