Audien markets hearing aids for mild to moderate hearing loss. It was founded as as the FDA enabled marketing of OTC (over-the-counter) hearing aids, at price points far below Rx-only hearing aids.

(Congress had passed into law the OTC Hearing Aid Act of 2017, mandating the FDA establish the new category of hearing aids available without the involvement of a licensed professional, and FDA regulations went into effect in 2022.)^[1]

By disrupting pricing a market with prices in the $hundreds that had been in the $thousands, Audien products could profoundly benefit consumers.

If the warranty is worthless, the products become worthless if they break after the 45-day return policy (which also requires authorization and payment of return shipping) ends. The company only offers a very limited warranty. (See: Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act, https://audienhearing.com/pages/limited-warranty). Gotchas in the warranty terms include:

1. "freight charges to and from the service center may be the customer’s responsibility unless prohibited by law."
2. Returns must be authorized and "must use an official Audien return label", which must be requested.
3. "handling charges" are not included and even when the company was asked to disclose them in advance, it did not do so.^[2]

Audien at times fails to properly disclose it as a limited warranty, apparently in violation of the Act.^[3]
